And with Halloween around the corner, some schools have banned clown costumes and many police departments are warning against it. And a teenaged former student at Glendora’s Sierra High School was also arrested for allegedly making criminal threats while assuming the character of a clown, authorities said.
Since Monday (Oct.3), dozens of reports have poured over social media of clowns lingering around pedestrians with bats in several states across the country.
“We ask parents to monitor the online activity of their children”, she added. She said her main goal is to bring awareness to the fact some people make a real living dressing up as clowns.
Nationally, reports of creepy clowns have been reported, and sightings have increased in recent weeks.
It happened about 2 a.m. Wednesday when the two female students reported they were being followed by someone wearing a clown costume.
Columbiana Police Chief, Tim Gladis, says “I think people are just trying to have fun with it”.
The rally was planned in response to numerous scary clown sightings reported across the United States, including at the University of Arizona.
Police hope it the clown craze will eventually fade away like many social media phenomenon.

The White House weighed in on the phenomenon this week saying the sinister sightings that have led to about a dozen arrests should be taken seriously and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security had been consulted on how to handle the scare. “Frequently, residents do not wait on law enforcement to handle a situation they believe they can control”, said McPherson police in another post. Even Stephen King came to their defense. If you’re scaring somebody’s child, it’s hard to hold that back and somebody may go too far. “We’ve had a number of them in the last couple of days”, Sheboygan police Capt. James Veeser said.
Kenny Ahern, the director of Clown Camp, an global clown conference and festival held in La Crosse each year, posted a statement on Facebook on Wednesday about the clown sightings around the country.
