Samsung sold 50 million Galaxy S3 units in the first year of commercial availability, and the handset is one of the best-selling phones of all time.
The device created a stir in the smartphone market when it was launched back in 2012.
This has been grated via CyanogenMod 13, which has just been updated to the Android 6.0-based version and supports the Galaxy S3. Three years ago, however, those specs can certainly take on any smartphone in the market at the time. It is run by a 1.4GHz quad-core CPU coupled with 1GB of RAM.
The Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8-inch display with a 720p resolution (720×1280 pixels) protected with Gorilla Glass.
It comes with a rear camera of 8 MP along with LED flash whereas the front panel features a camera of 1.9 MP.
The S3 also has battery of 2,100 mAh capacity. The handset was originally shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich installed. In addition, since a lot of devices have yet to receive the official upgrade, this means that those who upgrade to CM 13 will be able to enjoy the new features, albeit unofficial, first. Furthermore, CyanogenMod notes that this is still a “nightly” build, meaning a small number of stability issues (i.e. “bugs”) are to be expected. In terms of device list, however, the document remains unchanged – most of the newer Samsung Galaxy iterations will be getting the Android Marshmallow update earlier than the older-gen and previous flagship lineups. The external storage slot supports up to 64 GB of a micro SD card.
