San Diego Chargers: Five things we learned from home win

December 25 18:02 2015

Although owner Mark Davis has no interest in replacing the Rams in St. Louis, moving to San Diego isn’t all that different from moving to L.A. Ultimately, Davis wants a new stadium; if he can get one in San Diego, thanks to the sense of urgency that will come from the loss of the Chargers and the allure of bringing one of their top rivals to town.

Speaking of relocation, the Chargers (4-10) defeated Miami 30-14 in what could have been their last home game in Qualcomm Stadium.

Dolphins insider Brandon Howard examines three areas that cost the Dolphins a win against the Chargers. If he does return, a complete makeover of the roster could be a good start given their struggles on both sides of the ball.

The Chargers had five plays of 30 or more yards as they had no problem getting chunk yardage.

The Dolphins (5-9) are on the verge of another losing season – their second in the last four years and eighth in the past 12 – with games against Indianapolis and AFC East leader New England remaining. But physically us showing up and trying to finish plays was there. Neither did his receivers or tight ends.

Perhaps most concerning, however, is an offensive line decimated by injuries. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft from Alabama and was one of the few first round Raiders’ draft picks to actually pay off. Cooper has four 100-yard rushing games and touchdowns in five games, with two against the Green Bay Packers last week. There seems to be an inclination to take a harder look at rookie RB Jay Ajayi.

“It hurt my heart to be honest because I know how much work I put into this, how much work our team puts into this”, said Carr, who has thrown six touchdowns and seven interceptions in the last three home contests. Somewhere ex-offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, fired in part because he abandoned the running game too quickly, is smiling and saying, “I told you so”. But Miami was manhandled by quarterback Philip Rivers (3 TDs, 2 INTs) and running back Danny Woodhead (three receiving TDs). But Woodhead was the killer despite only having six receptions for 50 yards. Still, it’s another ugly performance from a rushing defense that’s been among the NFL’s worst all season.

National Football League owners are to announce this winter, which team or teams, if any, will be cleared to move to Los Angeles in 2016. Strong safety Reshad Jones had the first two kickoff returns of his career.

The eight averaged 39.5 snaps from scrimmage. On third-and-10 with 1:38 to play, Wade Wilson hit James Jett on a crossing route for a 68-yard touchdown for a 7-6 Raiders win under first-year coach Jon Gruden. Interim coach Dan Campbell’s job gets tougher every week. “That’s when it’s just kind of like, ‘Man, they’ve been here the whole time I’ve been here.’ I think you just realize it affects more people than just (us)”.
