The show picks up over 15 years after the events of the film; following Gellar’s Merteuil in her attempts to gain control of the son of her late step-brother (Phillippe’s Valmont) and Hargrove (Witherspoon), Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith). “In search of answers, he trades his small-town Kansas upbringing for a scholarship to the prestigious Brighton Preparatory Academy in San Francisco and soon finds himself in a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined”, according to Variety. Released in 1999, it starred SMG as the devious, scheming rich girl Kathryn, who makes a bet with her gorgeous stepbrother Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe) that he can’t seduce the innocent newbie at their school, Annette (Reese Witherspoon). Disappointed as we were in the shambles that were “Cruel Intentions 2” and “Cruel Intentions 3″, the idea of NBC picking up the movie for a full series was not especially inviting. Or to put it another way, Kathryn’s definitely gonna try and bang her stepbrother’s kid.
The pilot is set to be directed by Roger Kumble, who wrote and directed the 1999 film.
Sarah said: ‘This picture was taken on the eve of production on the original #cruelintentions. “I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and NBC) on the new Cruel Intentions“, she said.
There’s no word yet on whether any of the cast from the movie will return to their roles, but we’ll let you know as we hear more. Rosin and Ross are the writers of the well-received stage production The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Cruel Intentions, and will co-executive produce the pilot, with Kumble, and film producer Neal H Moritz. Her recent credits include CBS’ The Crazy Ones, The CW’s Ringer and a voice role in Star Wars Rebels.
