Other initiatives being rolled out by the governor include a plan for free middle class tuition at SUNY and CUNY colleges, revamping the JFK airport and increasing the state’s child care tax credit.

But that accusation was quickly squashed by Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi.

Cuomo proposed early voting and same-day registration in his budget past year, but it was never implemented, according to the New York Daily News. In September, he signed into law landmark legislation requiring school districts to test for lead in their drinking water.

In lieu of making a single 2017 State of the State address in Albany, Gov. Cuomo took to the road this week to make six addresses in regions around the state to advance his legislative priorities for the coming year. Gerry Geist, the group’s executive director, said state aid to two key funding pots has failed to keep up with inflation.

Cuomo said his goal is to reduce local property taxes, which he described as the “most burdensome tax” home owners and business owners face. He’ll travel to Syracue and Albany later this week.

Cuomo also proposed $40 million for creation of a new Innovation Hub on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, supporting the entrepreneurial activities of UB, the BNMC, 43 North and Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Cuomo said the infrastructure is already there: the Hudson River Valley Greenway is 50 percent complete and the Erie Canalway is 80 percent complete.

Cuomo’s offices says the six speeches are a way to directly community with the public. In his Buffalo speech, the word “progressive” was not uttered.
