Seinfeld’s George Costanza inspires themed bar in Melbourne

January 04 05:02 2016

It truly must be the summer of George because a new bar which is to theme itself around the fan-favorite and hapless character George Costanza of the uber-popular TV show Seinfeld has opened today in Melbourne.

Sure, George doesn’t seem like the most likely inspiration for a watering hole – he was stingy, argumentative, and really kind of annoying.

Best friend to Jerry Seinfeld, the balding eternal loser has whole pages of the internet dedicated to his ridiculous outbursts: “Everybody has to like me, I must be liked” and “Don’t get all insane on me”.

The Sydney Herald unveils words from co-owner Dave Barett: “George Costanza suits a bar in a lot of ways”.

Named George’s Bar, the Fitzroy venue features autographed items, Seinfeld paste ups and a toastie and cocktail menu tailored around jokes from the iconic series.

They’d have huge pictures of me up the walls and in their home, like Lenin’.

Barrett also has plans to include Melbourne artists who are inspired by Costanza.

News of the unusually decorated establishment has created a mini storm online, with Jason Alexander, the actor who portrayed Costanza, even praising the idea on his Twitter.

George’s bar also acknowledges Melbourne’s street art by including murals inside and outside the bar.

A bar devoted to George Costanza has opened its doors in Melbourne’s northwest.
