Capitol police continues to investigate.
Original story: The U.S. Capitol complex was placed under lockdown Monday after shots were fired at the entrance to the Capitol Visitors Center.
Police also located the Dawson’s vehicle at the Capitol and are waiting for a search warrant before searching his auto. A shelter-in-place order has been issued for buildings in the surrounding area.
According to a U.S. Capitol Police source, the shooter is down.
Meanwhile NBC Washington reports that the suspected gunman was the only person shot.
The Associated Press reported that a man was shot after drawing a gun in the Capitol Visitor Center, and that a bystander was wounded with minor injuries in the attack.
Espstein, executive director of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, said she wandered over to the visitors center to “kill time” before a scheduled meeting with Sen.
Contrary to earlier reports by the AP, no police officers appeared to have been injured in the shooting.
The Washington Post reports that the metal detectors that caught the suspect in the March 28 incident, were installed after the July 1998 shooting. The D.C. Police Department called the shooting “an isolated incident” in a post to its Twitter account.
The lockdown was lifted at 3:40 p.m., although the CVC remained closed as a crime scene. The incident took place while Congress was on recess with many representatives back home in their districts. The shooter was passing through one of the metal detectors when the detector went off. The suspect then pulled out his weapon, unnamed sources told local station WRC-TV.
