Snapchat Now Lets Users Create Their Own Geofilters…For A Fee

But then again, the feature is only available in Canada, UK and the USA; at least for now.

With on-demand geo filters, anyone who has a bit of a good hand in designing can pay Snapchat to create and distribute their own custom geo filters in a specific area for an allotted time. Once the information is entered, Snapchat will have to approve the content, although the site does not specify the criteria the filter needs to meet for approval. Snapchat has plans to add more countries soon. But the good news is that if a user wants to increase a geofilter, it can be increased to 5,000,000 square feet.

Snapchat has launched On-Demand Geofilters which can be used by anyone to mark a special occasion in a fairly unique way. Pricing starts at $5, and depends on the size of the area in which users want the filter to be available as well as the length of availability.

Until recently, Snapchat’s most famous option of displaying location-based filters was only available for a few select categories, such as artists, designers and various businesses, who wanted to purchase it for their events.

Still, it’s a start, and hopefully the company will improve the tool with a filter designer in due time.

Pictures at birthday parties and weddings will become even more personalized with the new filters you can create for your private events – this wouldn’t have been possible within the previous guidelines. Price is dependent on the size and time period of your geofence. The main difference with this community-based feature is that it can cover larger areas, designs cannot include logos or trademarks, and the submitted designs do not receive feedback from the snapchat team. This specialized filter will appear next to the neighborhood filter and the sponsored brand-of-the-day filter.
