Andy’s had a great year – he did three grand slam finals, winning Wimbledon was huge and Olympic gold.

Jamie and Soares will now face the victor of Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Pablo Carreno Busta.

Murray, the brother of twice Wimbledon singles champion Andy Murray, became the first British man to claim the U.S. Open doubles crown since Roger Taylor in 1972, while Soares is the first Brazilian to land the title.

“What have I learned from past year?”

By the measure of grand slam tournaments won this year, elder brother Jamie now has bragging rights, leading Andy 2-1.

Speaking on court after his win, Jamie said: “I’m starting to move out of the shadows a little bit”.

Murray and Soares reached the final after taking out the top-seeded team, defending champions Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.

“They are a very tough team, the defending champions, number one in the race, won so many tournaments, fantastic level, but I thought we did extremely well”.

Murray lost out to the same pair alongside John Peers in the final… “These tournaments are the hardest ones to win, all the best teams are playing”.

They made sure the trophy would not slip away a second time, adding the U.S. Open to the Australian Open title they won to start the year.

Murray is likely to head straight from NY to Glasgow, where the British Davis Cup team will need him for their semi-final against Argentina, and team captain Leon Smith was one of many enthusiastic supporters in the crowd.

“I’ve got a great partner in Bruno who makes a lot of returns which is good for me up at the net and long may it continue”.

They would not know who they had to beat for a couple more hours, but one of the hot teams of the moment are the Lopez’s, and they have beaten Murray and Soares three times this year already.

“I feel like I’ve vindicated my decision, sitting here four Grand Slams later and we’ve won two of them”.

When asked if they could see each other staying together for a long time, a smiling Soares quickly said “I hope so” prompting laughter among the media.
