Excise Minister K Babu had resigned following a similar direction from the same court in the bar bribery case.
Chandy has also approached the High Court after a court ordered filing of an FIR against him. Relying on her claims, the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led opposition Left Democratic Front has, meanwhile, chose to go ahead with their agitation to press their demand for the chief minister’s resignation. “Because they (bar owners) lost their battle in various courts – high court and Supreme Court, they have come with new allegations to hit out at the government”, he said.
Even as Chandy said he had done no wrong, she said the truth was otherwise. To a volley of questions, he said, “I will reveal it at an appropriate time”.
The power minister has also taken a similar stand.
Nair had alleged Chandy was paid Rs 1.90 crore and Muhammed Rs 40 lakh as bribe in exchange for government favours.
Referring to the coming polls, he said the ongoing year will be a “year of justice” in Kerala as people will “erase the corrupt government”. Justice P. Ubaid, in his order made critical remarks about the Special Judge of the Vigilance Court and said that the order of Vigilance court requires detailed examination regarding the necessity of sanction as well as the jurisdictional issues. The duo moved High Court today by preferring an Original Petition (Criminal) today challenging this order.
Pinarayi Vijayan, the CPI-M politburo member who is on his state wide yathra, told reporters at Palakkad that the only way out to end the crisis is the chief minister’s resignation.
The court noted that law must apply equally to the chief minister, the prime minister and the village officer, and those who have committed a crime must pay a price.
Saritha informed the commission that she would not make any revelation about the sleaze stories that were heard when the scam first surfaced involving her and top political leaders as that involved her privacy.
He said he can not be defeated by leveling allegations.
Saritha also rejected allegations that she had “illicit relations” with Chandy Oommen but admitted that she had business relations with him. “Perhaps the reason for this is because the Congress high command is also facing charges of severe corruption charges of nearly thousands of crores in the National Herald case”, BJP spokesperson M. J. Akbar told reporters here.
