Sony’s Xperia X Range Has a Phone For Every Pocket

February 22 04:17 2016

Sony has lifted the lid on two new smartphones at Mobile World Congress: the Xperia X and Xperia XA.

All three Xperia X series smartphones ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box. Sony says that the predictive hybrid autofocus feature in the Xperia X and Xperia X Performance smartphones has been developed in close collaboration with the company’s Alpha camera engineers.

For those wanting a bit more under the hood, Sony also announced the Xperia X Performance, packing a Qualcomm 820 SoC and a 2700 mAh battery to support Sony’s now standard two-day battery life promise, coupling smart battery management tech with Qnovo’s Adaptive Charging, which the company says will double the lifespan of the embedded unit.

The X will be available in single and dual SIM varieties, but each one will have different storage options, as the single SIM version only comes with 32GB of storage, while the dual SIM version comes with 64GB. It’s got the same five-inch full HD display with curved glass edges, but comes with a less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor and 3GB of RAM.

The Sony Xperia XA features a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display powered by Mobile Bravia engine 2. Judging by the average-looking camera sensor and LED flash, we doubt that it is a high-end device, but rather a budget or medium-range offering. It is supported by 2,300mAh battery. Sony finally refreshed its design policies, all of these phones sport a completely overhauled metal build with a “tone-on-tone” approach, as a result, the front and back will have the same colors providing a really sleek and unique look. The camera is a 13 megapixel ExmorRS sensor at the back and 8 megapixel camera at the front. In short, the Xperia Agent is where all Sony’s new Xperia technologies come together.

Motorola already has a similar product on the market, the Moto Hint, however the Xperia Ear looks to be padded out with a lot more functionality.

Both phones will come in four colours: white, black, lime gold and rose gold. The headset will provide users information about the content in the text messages, respond to text messages, take/reject calls, and even notifications about weather and news.

Both will go on sale in the summer.

The Sony Xperia X is the middling device within the X series that sits above the M series and below the Z series.

Sony has also created an Xperia Projector, which amazingly appears to have a touchscreen – the idea being that you can use it to browse photos on a table with your family, like the slightly creepy people in the promotional video above.
