And the big victor of the night was Mad Max: Fury Road, a feminist futuristic action film the dealt powerfully with women held as sex slaves. In the race for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing it was Mad Max: “Fury Road” that continued its reign of terror! In this case, it was even more unlikely because it was the first Best Picture victor with only two combined Oscars in over 60 years.
Mel Gibson first portrayed the traumatized hero wandering a post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland in 1979 and reprised the role two more times (finally facing off against Tina Turner in 1985’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome).
