State Department deletes retweet promoting Ivanka Trump’s boring book

Ivanka Trump’s first foray into self-help writing came in 2009 with “The Trump Card”, a breezy compilation of workplace advice, stories about her dealmaker dad and a hefty dose of celebrity namedropping.

Heidi Hartmann, president of the Washington DC-based Institute for Women’s Policy Research, a women’s rights think tank, said it remained to be seen whether Ivanka Trump would emerge as a credible champion of women’s rights.

There are obvious problems here; for one, Ivanka, who has worked as a professional model, looks very different than most working women (or most women) in the United States.

It’s natural that Ivanka Trump’s thinking would evolve. She also won approval to trademark her apparel brand in China on the day she dined with the president of China.

Trump’s initial tweet from her personal account said: “Thank you to my attractive sisters for the support of my #WomenWhoWorkBook!” She has actual real-world experience in manufacturing, she hass launched retail lines that bear her name and she has taken real risks in the unforgiving retail marketplace Jada Pinkett Smith.

NOW: Trump also discusses how to juggle career and family and live a more purposeful life. ‘My father has always said, if you love what you do, and work really, really hard, you will succeed, ‘ she writes at one point, adding that passion is ‘a great equalizer, more important than education or experience in creating your version of success.’ Elsewhere, she quotes the management guru Stephen Covey: ‘You choose success.

OK, I had said I wasn’t going to write about Ivanka Trump again anytime soon. A somewhat awkward defense, since it appeared in flesh and blood in this famous video.

She has a bit of work to do. In the meantime the most photogenic of the Trumps will leave most of us scratching our heads. On the other hand, she’s blind to the fact that her father has been recorded saying some terribly misogynistic things. “She wanted to offer me a job at Vogue“.

Ms. Trump insists, however, that she owes her success to her passion.

Bila continued and defended Trump to the other hosts.

The First Daughter has been busy promoting her new book Women Who Work, and the video ties in beautifully with that subject.

Say what you will about the book itself, and people have said a lot of very bad things, but it’s created quite the schism on Amazon ― one that works rather well as a metaphor for an incredibly polarized and hostile US political climate.

A State Department sub-agency’s Twitter feed on Thursday retweeted an Ivanka Trump tweet promoting the first daughter’s book, before undoing the action amid criticism.
