Steelers’ Roethlisberger says he is day-to-day

Cincinatti will enter a 25th year without a playoff victory after gifting division rivals Pittsburgh a chance to win the game with a late field goal. That year the Steelers defeated the Bengals 31-17 on their way to their fifth super bowl title in Superbowl XL. They played Saturday’s game without starting quarterback Andy Dalton (broken thumb). He didn’t lose us that game. The Bengals managed just 56 yards of total offense yet trailed just 6-0 as the Steelers and the league’s third-ranked offense could muster only a pair of Boswell field goals.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ Martavis Bryant makes this incredible touchdown in the NFL. All the plays Vontaze made, that put us in the position to be up, all the plays Pac made – I’m not anxious about that. The second-year running back caught a pair of passes on the final drive, including a 10-yard flip that gave the Steelers a first down. Bryant’s catch seemingly defied the laws of physics, with the receiver holding the ball against his backside with his arms tangled up with his legs. The Bengals running back was removed from the game and is now in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

The Bengals would tack on another field goal and force two more Steelers punts before putting together a drive that looked like it would end the Steelers season.

Filling in for an injured Roethlisberger, Landry Jones threw an interception to Vontaze Burfict (more on him later!), seemingly ending the game. The quarterback walked off on his own accord but quickly got checked out by trainers and left the game on a cart.

Linebacker Ryan Shazier did just that, and the ball popped out of Hill’s hand and forward, where cornerback Ross Cockrell recovered at the 9. Then Burfict committed the ultimate mistake for the Bengals.

Peace reigned Saturday until the kickoff, when bad blood between the teams flowed with head-high hits, personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct calls that even involved coaches from both sides.

Roethlisberger, unable to throw deep because of his injury, completed 5 of 7 passes for 40 yards leading up to the fateful deep pass to Brown that Burfict and Jones helped turn into the winning incompletion. According to Vegas Insider odds, the Steelers will be as much as seven point underdogs against the Denver Broncos if Brown is unable to play.

The AFC wild card games are done.

I am at a loss for words on how the season ended for the Cincinnati Bengals. Green hauled in the football at the Steelers’ two-yard line, ducked under the head-hunting Mike Mitchell, and easily scored the go-ahead touchdown, giving Cincinnati a 16-15 lead with 1:50 remaining on the clock. “More than any player in this game, including Burfict”, tweeted Greenberg.

Lewis declined to criticize either player directly after the game.

The Steelers defense played spectacularly for three quarters but wilted down the stretch.
