Stephen Colbert thanks Glenn Frey for kick-starting his love life

“It wasn’t your ordinary gig by any stretch of the imagination, and still gives me “chicken skin” as I write about this morning”.

The lyrics of a song from the Eagles Long Road Out Eden album and co-written by Glenn are a nice way of saying goodbye.

With its glittering guitar opening and touch of country twang, “Take It Easy” was the Eagles’ first single in 1972 and became one of the band’s signature songs. He died at 67 in NY on January 18.

“In August of 1975, I was sitting in a dressing room in the Columbia Coliseum in SC, about ready to go onstage”, he writes. Henley called him “the man with the plan”. Their downstairs neighbor was Jackson Browne, another popular musician with incredible talent. “He was amusing, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven”. Bernie Leadon, before leaving the band, famously poured a beer over Frey’s head.

As a founding member of the Eagles, Glenn Frey was responsible for some of the biggest songs of the 1970s. Frey was taking several medications for his arthritis.

A whopping 14 years after their 1980 breakup, the Eagles were back, and they launched their “Hell Freezes Over” tour, named funnily after the band famously said it wouldn’t reunite “until hell freezes over”. “So we didn’t go and I’ve not ever seen ’em live”. “We managed to get off the party train pretty early”, he told the paper. But the appearance was postponed because of Frey’s health problems. The Eagles will be honored in the 2016 ceremony.

“He and I were listening to traditional country music, meaning Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and particularly George Jones, which was my fix”, Souther said Tuesday.
