Kate Winslet and Aaron Sorkin both won Golden Globe awards Sunday night for the Steve Jobs biopic-Winslet for best supporting actress, and Sorkin for his writing.
Eddie Redmayne presented the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama to Brie Larson for Room, as her young co-star Jacob Tremblay stood on a chair to give her a standing ovation.
Internet is having a field day with best actor victor Leonardo DiCaprio’s surprised eye-roll after Lady Gaga grazed his arm on her way to accept her trophy at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards. Pixar’s Inside Out won Disney the award for best animated motion picture.
Sorkin also addressed the movie’s box office failure, which saw it perform about the same as the (lower-budgeted) 2013 Ashton Kutcher flop, Jobs. “Thank you for being such an incredible colleague and friend”. In the first speech of the night, she drove home her appreciation of the powerful female-driven roles this awards season. Asked to elaborate, the actor said: “A lot of us out there still in the game”.
“I really am so shocked right now”, she said.
Leonardo appears well ahead in the race for best actor in a drama for his strong performance as fur trapper Hugh Glass in The Revenant. Amazon even scored a few wins for its original series Mozart in the Jungle. In fact, Winslet was so sure she’d be leaving sans-Globe this year that she scheduled a 9 p.m. neck massage, she told reporters backstage.
