Suspected shooter of Dallas paramedic found dead

Police in Albuquerque say a man has been found alive with his hands nailed to a tree in a forest.

Mayor Rawlings said Monday afternoon, “I am pleased to report our DFR paramedic is out of surgery and moved to ICU…” Brown fired his gun, shooting and critically injuring one of the paramedics.

Police cars and fire trucks parked around the perimeter of the emergency department at Baylor where the injured paramedic had been taken.

The identities of the people inside the home have not been confirmed or released by police.

The robot found the bodies about five hours after an incident that triggered a massive police response.

Special agent in charge Eric Jackson of the FBI’s Dallas Division would not elaborate, saying only that Derick Lamont Brown was well-known to local, state and federal law enforcement officials.

Brown was described by Rawlings as “not mentally stable”. Investigators believe Brown was shot and injured by police, but that he shot himself to death inside his home.

Brown was a father and a janitor at Parkland Memorial Hospital, according to WFAA-TV. He once led the local Black Panthers, according to The Dallas Morning News. This means his heart stopped, CPR was given, and he was resuscitated. At this time, the injured firefighter is still in surgery.

The violent burst in a residential area appeared to have began as some kind of disagreement involving neighbors, said David Pughes, interim Dallas police chief, citing information given to officers.

Police said the shooting occurred near the Dolphin Road Fire Training Academy in Dallas.

An ambulance was also struck in the crossfire. Brown appears to have allegedly first shot his neighbor, and he then shot one of the paramedics who responded and were treating the neighbor. No detail at this time. The wounded firefighter is said to be an 11-year veteran of Dallas Fire and Rescue. The department requested a citywide assist, meaning it asked for the help of any available officer.

A gunman distraught over a recent breakup calmly reclined in a pool chair as he shot strangers at a birthday party and phoned his ex-girlfriend so she could hear the gunfire and screams of terror, San Diego police said Monday.

According to KXAS, the scene is active in the 3200 block of Reynolds Avenue in East Dallas, Monday afternoon. Officers took cover from the gunfire, he said. “And within the notes on our computer terminals inside, it said self-inflicted gunshot”, said Chief David Coatney with Dallas Fire Rescue. Pughes said an arriving Dallas police sergeant placed himself in extreme risk and went in alone to pull out the injured paramedic.
