The company has never officially stated that they have plans to produce a new 8 model, however, BMW recognizes that they need to up the ante to compete with its competition’s flagship models.

A new BMW 8 Series would likely serve as the brand’s flagship, in terms of both technology and luxury, being the ultimate in luxury grand touring. The new BMW Series 8 model will come with a unique multi-material architecture.

Rumors about BMW releasing a new 8 Series has been floating about since 2013. It also added that BMW’s CEO, Harald Krueger, wants to extend BMW’s line-up with high-end models. There are reportedly two body styles under consideration: a more luxurious version of the 6 Series Gran Coupe’s four-door figure, or a traditional two-door coupe and cabriolet.

The grab of yet another number by BMW is hardly surprising, but what is surprising is how long it took the marque to challenge the Mercedes-Benz S-class coupe head on.

Internal studies carried out by BMW suggest Mercedes-Benz earns up to 30,000 euros on each S-Class model it sells.

“With the decision to bring back the 8 Series, Krueger is looking at a potentially lucrative revenue stream with high profitability on a per unit basis”, a BMW senior manager revealed.

The original BMW 8-Series was introduced at a two-plus-two coupe in 1989 and remained in production until 1999.
