The heart behind the vision of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’

So what are the big changes for Yondu and especially what relationship does he have with Star Lord in this new round? “On the second movie he was like, ‘I’m going to do whatever I want with all of your money.’ And they said, ‘OK.’ And he made the craziest movie”. Tell us on Facebook (and yes, we’ll be expecting a lot of “Fantastic” Four responses).

Evidently the first film was hugely popular and accessible for children and adults alike, and provided a fun piece of escapism for audiences. We’re not here to spoil them for you in a newsletter (we’re not savages), but we are here to pass along a message from the film’s director, James Gunn. He’s hired to capture the Guardians, but his character – who raised the orphaned Quill – plays an unexpectedly emotional role in Quill’s journey into his past. I’m sure eventually there will be more incarnations of the Guardians of the Galaxy…

But while this “Guardians of the Galaxy” has no earnest belief in its sci-fi theatrics (the credits action scene is largely just blurry background to Baby Groot’s dancing), it believes surprisingly sincerely in its characters’ inner lives, the ones buried beneath their sarcastic exteriors.

Yondu is going through a rather hard period, managing things from his past that have a real impact on him. In an interview with ComingSoon.Net, Kurt Russell talked about his initial discussions with director James Gunn about the role and expressed his admiration for the film’s take on the character.

He said: “That has been the best part of this world tour by far”. It provides an easy entry point into the comics for people who were first introduced to these characters on the big screen and lets the company use their publications as testing grounds for future characters and storylines. He whisks Quill, Gamora, and Drax away to his own private planet, while the other half of the team matches wits with a group of bounty hunters led by Quill’s surrogate father Yondu (Michael Rooker). He’s an editor of the Wild Cards series, which are anthologies of superhero stories set in a single shared universe. All I know is that Charlize Theron absolutely kicks ass. He has very interesting talents, he knows very well whistle … Marvel, which considers Groot to be “the galaxy’s top tree”, joined with the Disney Conservation Fund and the Nature Conservancy to plant a tree every time the hashtag #GrootDanceBomb shows up on social media. Because this is certainly not what interested him! “Dunkirk” is Christopher Nolan‘s first film since “Interstellar” a few years back, and is a major shift in genre as he tackles a war film.

The Guardian gave the film 3/5 stars saying, ‘Two episodes in and the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is already starting to feel like an ironic, pop-cultural reference bingo card. Cat Stevens’ “Fathers and Sons” even plays at a pivotal moment.
