The Highlights From Team USA’s Gold Medal Game Against Canada Are Awesome

Team Canada defenceman Jocelyne Larocque has apologized for what she called an emotional reaction following her team’s shootout loss to the U.S.in Thursday’s gold medal hockey game.

They were up against their hockey nemesis, Canada, which has defeated the United States women’s team in the gold medal match multiple times in recent years.

Following a 20-minute overtime, and a penalty shootout that also ended in a 2-2 tie, the teams went into a sudden-death shootout.

Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson pulled off an incredible deke in the sixth round, while Maddie Rooney closed the door on Meghan Agosta as the US won gold for the first time since the ’98 Nagano Games.

Last Winter Olympics U.S. lost the gold medal to Canada in overtime after having a two-goal lead. Since then the Canadians had dominated, winning four straight gold medals, three of those head-to-head against the Americans.

Marie-Philip Poulin and Haley Irwin scored in regulation for Canada.

Edin has won just about everything in curling, skipping Sweden to world championship titles in 2013 and 2015 and a bronze at the Sochi Winter Games and now believes it is time to add Olympic gold to his resume. Goalie Maddie Rooney made the last save for Team USA, denying the Great White North its last chance to clinch the gold.

That makes falling short of gold with a 3-0 loss Friday to the “Olympic athletes from Russia” in the semifinals so very disappointing.

“I have spoken with Jocelyne and know that she did not mean to be disrespectful”, said Davidson. She is back again as Canada’s captain.

What a HERstorical win for Team USA.

For some context Team USA and Canada battled it out in the women’s ice hockey final for gold. This victory can put many of those minds at ease now.

Each team scored twice in five shots in the shootout before the shared heroics from Lamoureux and Rooney, and a historic win for Team USA.

Most of the women on the team said they had to work one or two other jobs in addition to training and competing because they were making so little from being on the national team. “I think we left it all on the ice”.
