The truth is still out there as The X-Files returns

Unfortunately for the cohesiveness of the show, these new characters don’t do much except move the plot along and quiz Scully about why she and Mulder broke up.

Scully: We’ve been given another case, Mulder. We wouldn’t mind if they did. Instead, these episodes are some of the most enduring in the show’s history precisely because they balance the clever with the intriguing so well.

She said at the time: “It was shocking to me given all the work that I had done in the past to get paid fairly, especially in this climate of women talking about the reality of unequal pay in our business”. This chapter was also about Mulder exploring the distance between wanting to believe and actually believing.

Get ready for more intriguing tales as Mulder and Scully reunite to probe more cases of the uncanny and the unexplained.

The season’s first episode is entitled “My Struggle” and takes place a decade after Mulder and Scully deserted their work of exposing interplanetary life.

Cult series The X-Files is set to return to our screens – more than 13 years after the original TV run ended. “It’s a big part of the emotional arcs for these characters”.

“I had no good answer for them because I don’t know. What’s interesting is the passage of time, their feelings have changed; they’ve grown and deepened”.

Here is the synopsis: “When an art gallery that’s showing potentially offensive artwork is bombed, Mulder and Scully seek some way to communicate with the comatose bomber in order to prevent a future attack”.

New guest stars include Robbie Amell (The Flash) and Lauren Ambrose (Torchwood: Miracle Day) as young agents Miller and Einstein. This sure looks like a finale episode to look up to.

Whether referencing Queequog, Scully’s previous dog in comparison to Daggoo, her new dog (both Moby Dick homages), or including Kim Manners and Jack Hardy, former producers on the show now deceased, on the headstones in the cemetery, mentioning Scully’s supposed immortality, or even including the series theme song as Mulder’s ringtone when Scully calls, the episode is a treasure trove of meta moments and acknowledgments of the show’s past. “Meanwhile, Mulder confronts the man whom he believes to be behind it all, but another figure from Mulder and Scully’s past may prove to be the key to their salvation”.
