Curry shot before Thompson in the final round, making his first seven shots and putting up 23 points which, until that point, was the best score of the night.
“Everybody thinks that, huh?”
Maybe they will come back next year and do it again.
No one would be surprised if they did. Hopefully my brother’s another. “But that’s fine. I’ll play the underdog for a night”.
However, Thompson admitted he was far from confident heading into the decider, made worse by having to watch Curry’s scorching start.
Stephen Curry told TNT’s David Aldridge that the team is focused on “trying to get better” every day and that the Warriors “can’t answer” questions about repeating as champs or winning 73 games. “So I’m glad I was able to make a lot of people wrong”.
And of course it came down to these two. Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, front left, takes schoolchildren through a skills drill at a Jr.
That gave Thompson the upset win and the Three-Point Contest title. Curry missed his first three shots and needed to make his final two to advance out of the first round. He won a tie-breaking shootout over the Clippers’ JJ Redick and Houston’s James Harden to reach the Finals.
“We had a gentleman’s bet”, Thompson said with a smile. “It was just fun because we have friendly trash talk between each other, and it’s all lighthearted out there”.
Thomas had the early lead but Towns caught him on their second trip down the court.
Saturday night, though, the National Basketball Association champion teammates become frenemies.
Gordon used the Orlando Mascot three times and twice jumped over him.
“Everybody said we were all going for third anyway so hey, I got third in my mind”, Lowry laughed, knowing full well he really didn’t.
“He brought the best out of me”, he added. “Our generation of player grew up with the 3-point shot”. Just like last season.
While the Slam Dunk Contest – won Saturday by Minnesota’s Zach LaVine – remains the final event of All-Star Saturday, the 3-point contest might be the marquee event, drawing All-Stars and the league’s top shooters.
It was just part of the great run for Minnesota that also saw Andrew Wiggins, have a terrific game as well for the World Team on Friday. Harden, who had eight, and Redick, who had nine, were eliminated.
But Thompson always responds when Curry isn’t around.
“Those guys are both incredible shooters”. “That’s right in his wheelhouse”.
The main event didn’t disappoint.
“That’s a daily thing we do man, we love to shoot against each other”, Thompson said. “They look at it as an art form, and I do too”.
