Tiger Woods humbled by meeting with Parkland shooting survivor

Are the sportsbooks still overrating his chances, nonetheless? .

Offaly golfer Shane Lowry will be hoping for better fortune as he tees off at the Honda Classic on Thursday on the PGA Tour in Florida.

It was by far his most impressive round in this nascent comeback. The 29-year-old loves the tournament – he lives minutes from the club – and previously finished 6th in 2016 and 7th in 2012, and can now be found at 8/1 to become the first player to defend his crown since Jack Nicklaus 40 years ago. Part of the troubles then, he said, stemmed from back issues that arose before the tournament.

CBS12, based in West Palm Beach, reported that Woods’ caddie Joe LaCava learned of the presence on the practice range of Kevin Shanahan, a long-time volunteer at the PGA Tour event in Palm Beach Gardens, which is about an hour’s drive north of the school where a gunman killed 17 of Shanahan’s schoolmates on February 14.

“I had pretty good control of the golf ball all day”, Woods said. “You’ve got to land the ball very short on the greens sometimes downwind and you’ve got to hit so many good iron shots”, claimed Noren, a nine-time victor on the European Tour but still seeking his first win on the PGA Tour stateside. If he’s available, you take him. “I didn’t play particularly great but I’m not surprised”.

At 9/1, defending champion Rickie Fowler heads the betting just one tick shorter than Justin Thomas with Rory McIlroy, the 2012 victor, another point longer than the America pair. Photo by Chris Breikss (Flickr) [CC License].

According to the latest oddsmakers at YouWager, Rickie Fowler is favored to win this week, as he has 8/1 odds. Fowler won the Hero World Challenge, had a top-five finish at the Tournament of Champions and is fresh off a top-15 finish at the Waste Management Open.

[I] s Tiger overrated? His return this year has seen a different Tiger, from a personality standpoint: clearly more open and friendly with his fellow players, even longtime rivals.

“We played well”, he said. The first two events were won by major winners Tom Weiskopf and Lee Trevino, and in addition to Nicklaus, they’ve been joined by the likes of Johnny Miller, Larry Nelson, Tom Kite, Hale Irwin, Curtis Strange, Fred Couples, Vijay Singh, Mark O’Meara, and Padraig Harrington. He trails another Oklahoma State alum, Alex Noren, and Webb Simpson by one stroke after the first round of this year’s Honda Classic. Woods tied for 23rd at Torrey Pines and missed the cut at Riviera. But he’s put together enough good rounds in the early going this year to have the confidence to get his name on the leaderboard at one of golf’s biggest events in 2018.

‘I’m starting to get into that flow again.

‘To get a win under your belt going into it does make you feel a bit better but you don’t have to. “There is a possibility of maybe missing one of the tournaments that I have scheduled”, Garcia said.

If you’ve been itching, just itching, to bet your money on Tiger Woods, this is the first week that I won’t call you insane for doing it.
