Tennessee rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota, whose fumble off a sack by defensive end Chandler Jones gave the Patriots their third touchdown, left the game in the second quarter with a knee injury and did not return.
Mariota injured his knee during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Patriots when he was sacked by linebacker Jamie Collins on a third down play.
We’ll await confirmation of this news from the Tennessee Titans, though with the team 3-11 it makes ideal sense to shut Mariota down for the season, with the long haul in mind.
The Patriots have won two in a row since stumbling to consecutive losses – their first two-game losing streak since 2012. And the touchdown run on the screen, I mean, from what I saw there wasn’t much there, and then he was so patient to see things open up and then took advantage when the hole finally did open, accelerated through there and got in the end zone.
“I’d say to be 12-2 is a good record”, Brady said. Mariota has completed three or more touchdown passes on four different occasions during his rookie season.
“I wanted to go in right away”, Mariota said. A couple short passes to Danny Amendola and James White had the Patriots staring at a 3rd-and-3 from the 5-yard line – and that’s when Brady hit Gronkowski for the game’s first score.
-TE Delanie Walker was quiet most of the day but did catch two touchdown passes, a 7-yarder and one that covered 57 yards. “But we have to get him healthy, too”. “That’s just a testament to our defense and how we’ve been trying to bring pressure all year”. He has emerged as a go-to guy in a Patriots’ offense that continues to score points in bunches, no matter who’s in the lineup. The Titans close out the year with games against the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts.
Zach Mettenberger will replace Mariota in the lineup.
Their roster continues to be a revolving door because of injuries, but the New England Patriots are squarely in the driver’s seat in their quest to have the top seed in the AFC.
The rookie quarterback was sacked to end the next drive, too.
Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes en route to a 33-16 Patriots win over the Titans Sunday afternoon.
Panthers 38, Giants 35: Graham Gano’s 43-yard field goal as time expired kept Carolina (14-0) ideal.
