The new trailer for The Mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe dropped on Sunday and I immediately looked for how the new Mummy reboot connects to the ’90s franchise.
The sole motive of Princess Ahmanat is to destroy the world so she can establish her own rule. Universal featured its upcoming adventure movie at the event along with several other flicks to be released soon. The film is meant to kick off both a new Mummy franchise, as well as the aforementioned cinematic universe based on the classic Universal monsters. Firstly, they dropped the brand new trailer for their reboot of THE MUMMY.
With captivating visuals and a narrative rooted in mythology, Kurtzman’s film could be a great start to Universal’s slate of monster films. He and Jenny (Annabelle Willis) awake Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella), an ancient princess whose destiny to rule Egypt was robbed from her in death. Although destined to sit on the throne, power-hungry Ahmanet wanted to seize power quickly and murdered her father, the king.
The trailer reveals more details than the first one, and amps up the action ala Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible series. For her crime she was wrapped up and entombed alive, which really isn’t how mummification works but whatever works for sealing away evil. Perhaps Russell Crowe, who pops up here as Dr. Jekyll, can balance things out.
The Mummy, which stars Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson, is scheduled to hit theaters in Taiwan on June 9.
Cruise, speaking with Entertainment Tonight in December, said that the film “is a real monster movie” with other key cinematic elements. “We’d do a stunt and it would hurt, and I’m like, “I think something went wrong because it hurt” and he’d go ‘Well yeah – we jumped off a building, dummy'”.
