Tony Pulis: Salomon Rondon will be brilliant for Albion

Bristol City are next in action on Tuesday evening when they face West Bromwich Albion at Ashton Gate in an FA Cup Third Round Replay.

West Brom will be without midfielder James Morrison, who is set to miss up to two months of action with an injury sustained in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, and Darren Fletcher, who was substituted at half-time in the Southampton loss with a knee injury.

Rondon’s victor put the Baggies through to the fourth round, where they will host League One Peterborough, and Pulis is now keen to go on a Cup run.

Championship strugglers City were left to rue missed chances by Wes Burns, Luke Freeman and Aaron Wilbraham, with Salomon Rondon scoring the game’s only goal shortly after half-time, converting a cross from Craig Dawson with a classy touch and finish. But the players’ attitude was first class and overall I think we deserved to win the game.

“But he’s found it hard”.

But Villa took 75 minutes to find a breakthrough against a team from England’s lowest professional league, with Ciaran Clark heading the Premier League’s bottom side in front.

“We’ve had a go in both of the games and we can take a lot of positives from them, but I’m not sure we did enough to win in the end”.

“I was brought up in the 60s and 70s when the FA Cup was very special and I still think it’s the greatest cup competition in the world. I’ve been very fortunate to take a club to Wembley and I’d love to take the Albion to Wembley”.

Bristol City’s caretaker boss John Pemberton urges his players to copy West Brom’s style in their fight against relegation from the Championship.

Pemberton said: “I thought it was quite tight and experience told in the end”.

They should really have led two minutes later, however, when a volley from Gardner bounced into the ground and sat up for McAuley, only for the veteran defender to head over from five yards.

“They’re so well organised out of possession and they don’t make mistakes”.
