Top two aides to British PM May quit

Now, all remains unclear.

PARKER: It’s a really odd one because it wasn’t just the opinion polls.

Donald Trump offered his warm support to Theresa May over the just- concluded parliamentary election. And after that, she never really recovered.

In an indication of the opposition to Mr Timothy and Ms Hill, former minister Anna Soubry had called for them to be sacked while Mrs May’s former communications chief Katie Perrior, who left Downing Street when the election was called, hit out at their “rude, abusive, childish behaviour”. And they also harnessed social media. They formed part of May’s small inner circle and were blamed by many Conservatives for the party’s lackluster campaign and unpopular election platform, which alienated older voters with its plan to take away a winter fuel allowance and make them pay more for long-term care.

JEREMY CORBYN: It was her decision to call the election. Will the Democratic Unionists get something for their pains?

Liberal Democrats gained four seats to amass 12 MPs, but lost its former leader and ex-deputy prime minister Nick Clegg in perhaps the highest-profile casualty in a night of stunning results.

“More than that, they must not be allowed to block the progress women deserve”.

The British government doesn’t have long to ink a deal.

The DUP has repeatedly used a controversial Stormont voting mechanism – the petition of concern – to prevent the legalisation of same-sex marriage despite a majority of MLAs supporting the move at the last vote.

Ahead of the election Corbyn offered United Kingdom voters the most left-wing, big government policy agenda for almost 40 years-and crucially an end to seven years of Conservative “austerity” policies and campaigning on promises to push for better funding for health and education. But there will be money involved for certain.

People living in Britain are waking up to uncertainty as Prime Minister Theresa May ignored calls to stand down after the ruling Conservative Party lost an overall majority in parliament in a general election on Thursday.

She was appointed Home Secretary a year ago – the role Ms May held before becoming Prime Minister – and stood in for the PM in a televised leaders’ debate during the election campaign. I think, frankly, she should have resigned and maybe wanted to resign.

He said: “I’m hoping the situation will be clarified within days, otherwise we are in an impossible position with the negotiations on Brexit coming”.

How would you explain the election result?

Mr McDonnell said that if Mrs May persisted in her efforts to remain in power, Labour would table an alternative Queen’s Speech and seek to put it to a vote.

Instead, Ms. May has been badly weakened and may not survive in office much longer.

In other developments Sunday, the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson issued a statement dismissing reports he was being encouraged to challenge May for her job.

Pro-Brexit Conservative legislator Bernard Jenkin attacked his party colleagues who want to use May’s weakness to dilute her vision of a clean break. It’s not going to be revisited no matter how this election sorts out? To make matters worse, she saw her majority evaporate. “Quite frankly I don’t know what’s going to happen”.

Talks concerning Britain’s exit from the European Union are expected to begin on June 19.

After last week’s election, May insisted she would push ahead with her plans for Brexit, giving no hint that she meant to water down her desire to quit the single market and customs union.

The party passionately campaigned to Leave in the Brexit referendum but has said it is keen to avoid a “hard Brexit” situation which would result in a hard border with Ireland. I wouldn’t go that far at this stage, but I think life is going to become very hard for Theresa May and the euro skeptics who want Britain to pull out of the European Union.
