It will still send 700 factory jobs south of the border to Monterrey, Mexico. Jones is a man who represents numerous working class folks that crossed over and voted for Trump in areas of the United States like Indiana.
Trump yesterday tweeted that Jones had “done a bad job representing workers”.
Spokespeople for Trump did not respond to the Post’s request for comment.
Trump has said that he will grow the number of manufacturing jobs by lowering corporate taxes and slashing regulations – and charging a 35 percent tariff on goods made by companies that move jobs from the United States to foreign countries.
Jones said the number of Carrier jobs actually saved is about 800, while some 550 jobs will still be lost from the factory to Mexico. He said something to the effect, ‘No, we’re not leaving, because Donald Trump promised us that we’re not leaving, ‘ ” Trump said Thursday.
Speaking to the Washington Post, Jones said the calls he received were “People saying ‘We know you’ve got children”.
Donald Trump still seems to be learning that there’s a difference between talking tough toward multi-national corporations-like criticizing Apple for outsourcing jobs or threatening to cancel a contract with Boeing-and using his bully pulpit (and soon, the vast powers of the presidency) to single out civilians who cross him. AP correspondent Sandy Kozel reports. He said he and the union plan to work with the Trump administration to keep jobs in the USA and Indiana.
The union president slammed by Donald Trump on Twitter challenged the president-elect Thursday to back up his claim that a deal to discourage Carrier Corp. from closing an IN factory would save 1,100 American jobs. “He was told, ‘I better watch out for myself, and they know what kind of vehicle I drive, that I better watch out for my kids'”. Calling Jones out for being the cause of jobs leaving the United States is asinine, especially when the Governor of the State of IN is the guy you picked for Vice President! Bernie Sanders was among those who called Jones to offer encouragement. “I know that if I’m going to have a fighting chance, I better damn well know the numbers”, Jones said.
“Automation means less people”, Jones said to CNN on Thursday.
“Well, I’m for us putting everything on the table in negotiations, in renegotiating NAFTA and in negotiations with other countries”, Pence said, referring to the North American Free Trade Agreement. The president elect also is said to have threatened to impose tariffs on the firm’s products that would be imported into the USA from Mexico if the plant was relocated south of the border. “We’re not asking for anything besides opportunity, for jobs that let people provide for their families”, Jones wrote. However, Trump is just giving his supporters what they want, while the greater percentage of people are questioning his tactics, and have become afraid of what Trump’s doing.
