Trump discusses safe zones, terror fight with Saudi King Salman

This ban of his is not going to make us any safer because all of the reports show that Saudi Arabia is a big sponsor of radical ideologies and terrorism around the world -that’s number one.

The White House noted that President Trump likewise “voiced support for the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 economic program”, a plan to revamp the Saudi economy that includes few political reforms and does not guarantee equal rights for women, who face systematic subjugation.

The calls on Sunday made no mention of Trump’s ban on the entry of citizens and refugees from Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Libya and Somalia, the Politico news magazine reported. It also places a 120-day hold on admitting new refugees, and bars Syrian refugees indefinitely.

In December, the U.S. German Chancellor Angela Merkel reportedly explained US obligations under the Refugee Convention to Trump when they spoke on the phone on Saturday. A Turkish company also manufactures a line of Trump-branded home furnishings.

The warning came hours after Trump called Saudi King Salman and Abu Dhabi’s powerful crown prince, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the likely future president of the United Arab Emirates. What these seven countries do have in common, as Uri Friedman of The Atlantic reports, is the opposite: Strictly speaking, no Muslim citizen from these countries has committed a fatal attack on U.S. soil since 1975.

On the campaign trail, Trump criticized Obama for alienating allies in the region, vowing to rebuild alliances with “moderate” Middle Eastern countries such as Egypt and Jordan to fight Islamic State.

Tehran will “take reciprocal measures” against USA nationals who want to travel to Iran, First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri promised Monday.

To the extent that the travel ban increases tension between the United States and the Shi’ite-led governments in Iran, Iraq and Syria, the Gulf rulers could see it as a boon.

Trump said the travel ban is in the US interest.

Tarik Yousef, director of the Brookings Doha Centre think tank, said the Gulf countries were still “in a cautious wait and see mode given the uncertainty about the direction of US foreign policy in the Middle East under the new administration”.

The chicken hearted Muslim rulers around the globe are more driven by their narrow parochial, national interests. The anger and disgust towards his actions is understandable, and all Americans can not forget that this is done for protection, but not for the protection of America citizens.

The edict coincided with Trump’s circulation of a memorandum to senior administration members and the military calling for the drafting of a plan to defeat Islamic State (also known as Isis) and with the revelation that USA efforts to counter the group’s online propaganda have failed.

“A Royal Decree has been prepared”, the official agency said. The order, which resulted in confusion and protests at airports throughout the country, has not been warmly welcomed. The anti-immigration action is to stop the flow of people from countries that have a history of terrorism.

The government so far doesn’t appear to have issued a formal response, but Somali native Mo Farah, a decorated Olympian and British citizen who lives in Portland, Ore., criticized the ban, which he said cast doubt on whether he can return to his family after training in Ethiopia.

Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu said last month that there were many ways of “undoing” the Iran nuclear deal and that he would discuss that with Trump.

Hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees live in Kenya. It is up to us to file a claim trying to close down this administration. “The two leaders agreed to schedule the visits in the coming period”, it said. Even green card holders, who had left the U.S. on business or holiday, have been stopped from returning home by misguided immigration officers. It’s unclear how the ban will affect the Iraqi pilots, who are trained in the U.S.
