Trump Falls Behind Cruz in National Poll

PPP notes that Trump’s support cuts across South Carolina’s demographics: those describing themselves as both very and somewhat conservative, senior and younger voters, men, self-identified Republicans, middle-aged voters, both evangelicals and non-evangelicals, and moderates and self-identified independent voters.

Trump says Obama wants to nominate a justice who will be “very negative” on the Second Amendment and gun policy.

Cruz, 45, should be disqualified from the New York Republican primary, set for April 19, because he was born in Canada, voters Barry Korman and William Gallo said in a complaint Wednesday in New York state court in Manhattan.

“From the size of the lead and the nearness of voting day, it is easy to say this is Trump’s election to lose”, said pollster J. Ann Selzer, who oversaw the survey.

The pair filed papers in Manhattan Supreme Court Thursday asking the court to order Cruz off the ballot in the the New York State Republican Presidential primaries, arguing he’s ineligible to run because he was born in Canada. Ben Carson is at 8 percent, while John Kasich is at 7 percent. About one-third say they would enthusiastically back Cruz (32%, down from 37% in January), and 31% say so about Rubio, about the same as in January.

Whatever happens to Cruz, Joyce made it clear he would prefer Carson, who he said has a “serious demeanor”, as Republican nominee and president.

Earlier, in response to Trump’s threat to file a lawsuit against him over the issue, Cruz said the question of his citizenship had been “settled” and that Trump’s allegations were just “political noise”.

Still, the poll shows significant fissures within the Republican Party. Eighty percent of Trump’s supporters opposed letting Muslims immigrate to the USA, followed by 52 percent of Rubio’s. “I think somebody at Wall Street Journal doesn’t like me but I never do well with the Wall Street Journal poll”, Trump said.

Other evidence, according to Cruz, is a 2015 Trump statement in which Trump said his sister, a federal appeals court judge, would make a “phenomenal” Supreme Court justice. He said he sued the election board because it’s required by law to only put the names of qualified candidates on the ballot.
