Donald Trump has recently released a statement in which he revealed how the ban is not a “Muslim-ban”, as reported by several media outlets.
Added Spicer, “It can’t be a ban if you’re letting a million people in”.
“These seven countries [in the executive order] were identified by the Obama Administration as needing further travel scrutiny”, Spicer said.
Welker asked, “Is he confused, or are you confused?“. “He was hungry and he was thirsty, and I could not see him”, she said. Those words are derived from the media.
“He [President Trump] has been very clear – it’s extreme vetting”, he said.
During the presser, Spicer mentioned that Trump had spoken to Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau offering condolences on the terrorist attack. “NBC’s News’s reporting has been based on the New York Times false reporting”.
Four days after President Trump signed an order closing the nation’s borders to refugees and others from seven predominantly Muslim countries, the controversy threatened to escalate into a crisis.
And when incredulous reporters noted that just hours before, the president himself had referred to the action as a “ban” in one of his patented tweets, Spicer blamed the media for putting that inaccurate word in Trump’s mouth.
“Let me just walk through the tick-tock”, he said.
“Three hundred and twenty-five thousand people flew into this country from airports and 109 people were affected and slowed down in their travel”.
Spicer’s comments on Tuesday prompted a flurry of questions from journalists, who pointed to Trump’s own tweets referring to the order as a ban.
SPICER: I’m not confused. Welker then followed up, asking about Republicans – including Paul Ryan – who have argued that the policy was not rolled out “smoothly”. “We act now to protect the future”.
SPICER: Can I answer the request?
Meanwhile, all new visa issuances to travelers in those countries were temporarily suspended to allow time to review US immigration vetting procedures, CNN reported.
Spicer did not mention the fact that the suspect in the attack, 27-year-old Alexandre Bissonnette, is a Canadian and the victims were Muslim.
