Trump Says Mexico Has Taken Advantage Of U.S. ‘For Long Enough’

Guajardo said the United States and Mexico could reach mutually beneficial improvements to the North American Free Trade Agreement if the issue of paying for the wall was resolved.

“The Foreign Ministry expressed to the government of Israel, via its ambassador in Mexico, its profound astonishment, rejection and disappointment over Prime Minister Netanyahu’s message on Twitter about the construction of a border wall”.

Hours later, White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters that the president had discussed the funding proposal with lawmakers, and that they are considering making it part of a tax reform package the US Congress is planning.

The issue has damaged U.S.

A Donald Trump supporter holds a sign referring to the wall Trump plans on building along the border at a rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA, 19 February 2016.

“Mexico has taken advantage of the US for long enough”, Mr. Trump said on Twitter on Friday.

The President also signed executive orders to ban refugees from entering the United States and to rebuild the military.

China has played a greater role boosting the US trade deficit than Mexico over time, even without a free-trade agreement.

The war of words between President Donald Trump and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto flew on Twitter and moved from the border wall to trade tariffs on Thursday.

Officials had said Mexico was “considering” cancelling after the border wall announcement, but Trump appeared to beat Mexico to the punch in that game of brinkmanship.

Trump’s current plan is to fund the border wall construction with US tax dollars, then somehow force Mexico to reimburse the country.

“A nation without borders is not a nation”, Mr Trump said. He added that it was not the job of the White House to “roll something out” on tax policy.

On Wednesday, Trump signed executive orders, approving the border wall, while reiterating that Mexico would pay for it in one form or another. “Hence the US may have to increase its trade deficit with Mexico and Canada to reduce its overall trade deficit”, he added.

“The unprecedented surge of illegal migrants from Central America is harming both Mexico and the USA and I believe the steps we will take starting right now will improve the safety in both of our countries”.
