Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) told The Hill that President Trump’s DAPL action instructs the federal agencies responsible to expedite approval of the pipeline.
“They were not joking when they said these pipelines are absolutely antiquated and they do threaten our communities of color”. This approximately 1,100-mile pipeline is created to carry approximately 500,000 barrels per day of crude oil from the Bakken and Three Forks oil production areas in North Dakota to oil markets in the United States.
Although the pipelines would provide jobs and an economic boost to Americans, residents will be at risk of toxic exposure if a leak does occur.
The pipeline could end up carrying 830,000 barrels of oil each day, according to BBC News.
Members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe have also said they believe building the pipeline will destroy important cultural landmarks-including burial sites, prayer sites, and significant artifacts.
Construction on the project was halted in December after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers denied a permit for the pipeline to cross under a Missouri River reservoir in the area so it could explore alternate routes.
Almost 600 pipeline opponents have been arrested in North Dakota since past year. The former president declared that the project would have undercut US efforts to land a global climate change deal that was a crucial part of his environmental legacy. The state department estimated the project would create 5,000 to 6,000 construction jobs, while the Obama White House put the figure even lower, at 2,000 construction jobs, and then just 50 to 100 jobs a year.
Trump insisted that his administration will demand that the pipeline is built with only USA -made pipe, further boosting American jobs.
TransCanada did not commit to using US -made pipe on the project.
“If we are going to build pipelines in the United States, the pipes should be built in the United States”, the president said. The will of the people is being completely over ridden. They held signs protesting the greenhouse gas emissions from the oil and gas transported in pipelines.
Following media reports that Trump would revive the pipeline projects, shares of TransCanada, Energy Transfer Partners LP and Energy Transfer Equity LP went up 1.1 percent, 3.3 percent and 1.7 percent respectively, Bloomberg noted.
