TRUMP: Oh, you’re going to be happy. But for our companies-and we’re going to reduce the regulations.
Trump once said he would appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton’s use of a private email server, and even said during the second debate “you’d be in jail” under his administration. “Trump wants to protect our country and put Americans first”.
Meanwhile, a few dozen protesters stood guard outside, chanting “love trumps hate” and “2.5 million”, Clinton’s margin over Trump in the popular vote.
DON GONYEA, BYLINE: Good morning.
Trump, who takes office on January 20, is still weighing who to choose as secretary of state.
“There is no global anthem, no global currency”, he said.
Former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton, reportedly on the short list to be secretary of state, was one of the many expected to move in and out of Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan throughout the day. Officials said this week that Carrier had agreed to keep some 800 union jobs at the plant.
He then issued a stark warning to other United States firms that they will face consequences if they relocate overseas.
INSKEEP: Kind of a contrast to other parts of the speech where he lashed out at critics.
“There’s so much to do when you’ve been elected president”, Cohen said. “These are people of great distinction, great success, which is what you need, you know you’re negotiating with people”. And since the now president-elect carried it by eight points, he chose to make it – specifically Cincinnati – the first stop on his “Thank You” tour. Just give a listen to this passage. Die hard supporters showed up in their vintage “Make America Great Again” caps and burst out in “Lock her up!” and “Build the wall”, chants as if it were a reunion tour. We’re going to discuss it.
But he also reminisced how “fun” it was “fighting Hillary”.
Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s campaign manager, responded: “Do you think I ran a campaign where white supremacists had a platform?” He said the press was dishonest and took a couple of shots at Hillary.
As for whether he’ll betray Trump’s promise of avoiding regime change, only time will tell.
“We didn’t break it, we shattered that sucker, ” Trump said.
Trump, who sometimes nearly seems surprised himself at the power and influence now in his hands, is clearly enjoying the process of building his governing team.
GONYEA: He sure did.
But became fired up when he unveiled yet another cabinet pick – retired General James Mattis. He was basically confirming what was out there.
“Mad Dog” Mattis for some is the flawless example of what the USA military should be: Reluctant to engage in conflict- but willing to kill anyone who tests it.
“We don’t want another Nice, we don’t want another Orlando and we don’t like what is happening in Germany”.
GONYEA: His nickname, exactly. Josh Mandel, Ohio’s treasurer who alluded to voters in 2010 that his opponent was a Muslim, said America was founded on “Judeo-Christian values” and that the country should “double down” on that rather than be “watered down”. Remember when they said, “He can not win North Carolina”. “And I didn’t know they closed down the roads around the stadium for an hour and a half”.
And we won it big. And he kept calling it a landslide. “We’re going to find common ground, and we will get the job done properly”.
The former Apprentice host outlined his agenda, which included bringing back manufacturing jobs, abolishing Obamacare, building the wall on the Mexican border, and destroying ISIS. Then you turn on the television, like, two minutes later. Trump broke from his script numerous times, glorifying his win. “Ok, I love this stuff”. “She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways”.
It was a familiar scene, with hundreds of Trump’s supporters lined up outside the arena. His name’s Tony Krez – 39-year-old DJ.
We are living in a time that will be spoken of for years to come. But listen to his reaction to the night. They’re having to advertise to get people there? They’re, like, so electrified.
“It’s an important decision”, said Conway, who has previously voiced concerns about Trump tapping Romney for the State Department spot.
