Donald Trump is scheduled to receive his first classified briefing on Wednesday at the FBI’s NY field office.
The Directorate of National Intelligence (DNI), the nation’s top intelligence office, will be leading the briefing, which is expected to cover major threats and emerging concerns from around the world, the report said.
The Director of National Intelligence serves as the head of the USA intelligence community, advising the president, the National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council on matters related to national security.
Donald Trump also said he would be bringing conspiracy artist Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn with him to the briefing because he doesn’t trust the intelligence.
“Not so much from the people that have been doing it for our country”, Trump said.
There was no indication on Tuesday that Clinton has thus far requested such a briefing for herself, sources familiar with the briefing process told Reuters.
Democrats have leveled similar arguments against exposing Trump to classified information, claiming he is too reckless and adulatory toward Russian President Vladimir Putin to be trusted with state secrets.
Well, not if you’re Donald Trump, apparently. “Briefings for the candidates will be provided on an even-handed non-partisan basis”.
Both Christie and Flynn are considered leading candidates for roles in a Trump administration should he win the White House.
Candidate briefings are “not at the level of the PDB”, the President’s Daily Brief, which is akin to a daily newspaper of secrets, one official said.
A spokesman from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which oversees the classified meetings, declined to elaborate on the vetting process for the aides who accompany nominees. ‘They’ll be generalized discussions.
