Trump’s Latest Executive Order Is Neither ‘Pro-Jobs’ nor ‘Pro

While most of Trump’s order can immediately take effect, repealing the Clean Power Plan will have to go through a lengthy process that could take months or years.

The White House will take a major swipe at President Barack Obama’s climate change legacy on Tuesday with the signing of an executive order on energy independence.

“We will honor our commitments to our communities to do what’s right to keep our residents safe, secure, healthy and prosperous as we accelerate our clean energy economy and put the interest of our people before those of big polluters”.

Trump doubts the broad scientific consensus – affirmed by the vast majority of climate scientists – that human activity contributes to and has exacerbated a warming trend around the globe. Roughly 200 countries agreed to the climate plan that cuts greenhouse gases, but the senior administration official says that they have not made a final decision on the matter.

An article last week in The New York Times laid out in grim detail exactly what the administration plans to do to eradicate every US effort to limit Carbon dioxide emissions.

The new president will unveil a series of measures to review regulations curbing oil, gas and coal production and limiting carbon emissions.

The president’s top advisers have been divided over whether America should formally withdraw from the 2015 global warming pact that Obama and his deputies helped broker through the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change.

During the campaign, Trump rarely talked about automation, and instead accused, Mexico, China, regulations and illegal immigrants as the primary drivers of job loss.

And mining jobs have been in decline for decades as automated equipment increasingly unearths coal, doing the work that once required pick axes and mules.

Existing federal leases contain at least 20 years’ worth of coal, according to Interior Department estimates.

In other words, don’t expect every pen within reach of President Trump to suddenly stop functioning on Tuesday.

The rollback of the Clean Power Plan not only imperils the planet’s future climate but will have life-and-death consequences for millions of Americans here and now. The Trump administration’s attitude towards the gravest threat facing mankind is indicative of just how far removed it is from reality, and a clear indicator that the American public must declare its own war on them before it really is too late.
