Turkey insists Syrian Kurdish militia behind Ankara attack

Ankara was hit by twin suicide bombings on October 10, when 103 people were killed in an attack on protesters gathering outside the city’s main train station for a peace rally.

Southeast Turkey has been gripped by violence since the collapse last July of a ceasefire between the PKK and the Turkish government.

Cavusoglu said Washington should break ties with Kurdish insurgents. “This is a country that has often had problems in the past, but the scale of what is happening now is beyond Turkey’s capacity for digestion”.

Announcing the military measure on February 13, Prime Minister Davutoglu demanded the YPG withdraw from Azaz and the nearby Menagh military air base and warned the group against using either as a base to attack Turkey or Syrian opposition forces.

A Turkish court has charged 14 people in connection with last week’s suicide vehicle bombing in Ankara and ordered them to be jailed pending trial, the state-run news agency said.

On Saturday, Turkey dug in, demanding unconditional support from the United States. Tayyip Erdogan is focusing especially on Syria where he says Turkey “has every right to conduct operations”.

Russia’s goals in Syria appears to be simple, according to analysts. He said TAK took responsibility to ensure the militia’s “international legitimacy” was not harmed.

Washington supports the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its YPG militia as the best fighting force on the ground against Islamic State (IS) militants but is also a close Turkey ally, despite Ankara’s fierce rejection of the Kurdish militias.

Turkey has been targeted by terrorist attacks in recent months.

But Luxembourg foreign minister Jean Asselborn told German magazine Der Spiegel that the Turkish government can not count on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

The FBI owes it to the victims of the San Bernardino terror attack to do what it can to gain access to the locked cellphone used by one of the gunmen, FBI Director James Comey said Sunday night.

Asselborn also stressed that Article 5 can only be invoked when a member state is clearly attacked.
