Twitter disruption silences swaths of Europe, parts of US

Tweetdeck, Twitter’s social media dashboard, had also been down for many users.

Now that Twitter seems to be working again for most users, people are catching up and tweeting about debacle.

According to DownDetector, the problem began around 3:30 a.m. ET, and was largely contained to the United Kingdom and Europe, though reports tip US disturbances, as well.

A technical problem that affected access to Twitter for more than six hours has been resolved.

The issue was the longest-lasting in the micro-blogging site’s nearly 10-year history. Maybe your business suffered as a result?

“(People) know that we post things about road closures, traffic delays, collisions and today it was, for the most part, information that couldn’t be obtained”. The hashtag #TwitterDown has been trending on both Twitter, when users could access it, and on the rival Facebook’s network.

Dubois, whose research focuses on technology and communication, said social media users can’t count on a one-stop shop given technology’s fallible nature.

According to a post on Twitter’s official blog for status updates, the company was aware of problems affecting its network from around 4 a.m. Eastern time.

The market was quick to react to the service disruptions which shut out millions of users from using the social networking platform.

The outage comes as Twitter continues to struggle to grow its user base.

World Wide Worx MD Arthur Goldstuck says this outage could have serious implications for Twitter itself.

“Some users are now experiencing problems accessing Twitter“.

Even though the original breakdown was fixed at around 11am, throughout the day some users have had problems displaying video content and photographs on their timelines. “We apologize for any inconvenience”, Twitter said.
