Two Teens Shot At Arizona High School

Police said the campus was on lockdown. “Finally, they let us call parents”.

Two girls were shot at Independence High School in Glendale, Arizona (a suburb near Phoenix) in what appears to be a murder-suicide. A gun was found nearby. School district Superintendent Brian Capistran told reporters that parents will be bused to campus to meet their children. Her girlfriend then took her own life. Glendale police, however, have not confirmed the identity of either of the girls involved.

Each 10th-grader was found with one gunshot wound outside the building, near the school’s cafeteria, Glendale police Officer Tracey Breeden said. The girls were both shot once, and the weapon was found close to their bodies. Detectives also said that the girls were in a relationship. Speaking to Heavy.com, one of Kieu’s classmates said, “They were about to break up I believe, yesterday they seemed fine…They were both really nice and I would have never expected this to happen”.

She told parents awaiting word on their kids that “your children are safe”.

Breeden said police are not looking for an active shooter.

School officials identified one of the victims as May Kieu.

Many concerned parents have gathered outside the school.

Cheryl Rice said she went to the store after a friend called about the shooting and asked after Rice’s 15-year-old daughter. Friday morning, police said.

“We were on scene in less than two minutes”, Breeden said.

Details about the teens’ identities, their conditions, and whether police had anyone in custody weren’t immediately available.

While the school was on lockdown, the students were not allowed to use their cell phones.

A lockdown was still in place after police and fire units descended on the school in a residential area.

Independence High School has 2,000 students enrolled.

The shooting was reported at Independence High School, about 12 miles outside of Phoenix.

“The most important message we want to get to parents is your children are safe”, said Breeden, speaking at a mid-morning news conference.
