US casualties in fighting in southern Afghanistan

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation handed over control of security operations to their Afghan counterparts in December 2014, with the US military’s combat mission in Afghanistan officially ending under President Barack Obama’s watch. In addition to the USA troops, the British government also dispatched a small team of advisers to the province-a place that bore the brunt of their casualties in the years prior to the British withdrawal in 2014.

News reported that one U.S. service member had been killed and two others wounded.

A spokesman for the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation coalition in Afghanistan earlier told NBC News that a USA helicopter had “landed” in Helmand province and was “experiencing mechanical problems”.
