“.People might raise questions and level allegations but I said this before and say it again that as his son if there is any conspiracy against the party and him it is my duty to stand against them”, he said. The meeting comes after Akhilesh himself met with leading lawmakers and party member at his residence in Lucknow’s Kalidas Marg.
Another key player in this family feud is an outsider: Amar Singh. “We will decide the chief ministerial candidate for Uttar Pradesh”, he had said.
Even after his expulsion was revoked, Ram Gopal Yadav remained firm on holding the emergency national convention of the party in Lucknow on Sunday.
The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, has been expelled from his political party by his own father.
June, 2016: Shivpal Singh with the help of Amar Singh tried to forge an alliance with don-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s party QED.
Ramgopal Yadav termed his and CM Akhilesh Yadav’s expulsion from Samajwadi Party as unconstitutional. It was this meeting that had put him on the wrong side of Mulayam. Pouring scorn on Ramgopal, Mulayam said he has “ruined” the finishing career of Akhilesh who “does not understand”.
Mulayam is learnt to have told Akhilesh, whom he had expelled for indiscipline, that he was not against him. The National Convention proposed Mulayam Singh Yadav to be considered as party’s supreme leader & top brass will take his guidance.
‘It is quite possible that Mulayam himself steps in to become the CM, forcing the factions to patch up, ‘ he said, requesting anonymity.
“Ram Gopal has weakened the party”.
In the meeting, which lasted for over 45 minutes, Mr Khan talked about the faith people, particularly, Muslims have reposed on Samajwadi Party.
Akhilesh’s name did not figure in the first list. A similar patch up drama earlier had not worked and both Akhilesh and Shivpal had expelled each others’ loyalists, one from the party and the other from the ministry.
But the 43-year-old Akhilesh lashed out against his uncle Shivpal Yadav, with whom he is locked in a months-long battle for control of the party. Lastly, critics and cynics have claimed that Akhilesh Yadav will soon be accepted back into the SP fold and all these developments are mere eyewash.
The BJP, which is looking to make further inroads into Uttar Pradesh after a near clean sweep in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, was in a celebratory mood.
