“I don’t know”, Wade said. Wade is hopeful but also unsure about what the reception will be like towards him this week. A team he was a part of for 13 years.
(AP Photo/Lynne Sladky). A video tribute for former Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade (3) is played during the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Chicago Bulls, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, in Miami.
Wade received multiple standing ovations before and during the game. Wade left the Heat as a free agent last summer, signed with his hometown Bulls and when the schedule came out the first thing to check was when he would be back in Miami. We talk all the time. Then, in what was reportedly an effort to sway James to stay by giving Pat Riley more flexibility to rebuild the roster, Wade and Bosh did the same.
“He’s going to get a great reception here”, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Wednesday.
“Our young guys are wired that way so I’m sure they’re excited about it”.
Speaking to CSNChicago.com, the Chicago native said: “I thought it was an opportunity I would be there forever, but s-t happens”. But when you come back here, obviously it’s the things that you’re used to. There will be emotion, I know that. “What it’ll look like…”
Afterward, however, Wade was just glad it was over.
Milwaukee used a late 9-4 run to pull within 108-105 on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s three-point play with 40 seconds to go.
Beyond losing a great teammate, leader and mentor, the organization suffers tremendously on the court in regards to missing talent.
As for the the Miami Heat (2-4), the team lost their last road game against the surging Oklahoma City Thunder by a score of 97-85. “Miami has been a weak offensive team this season, averaging just 96.3 points per game on 41.8% FG shooting, despite facing defenses that allow 99.5 ppg and 44.3% FG”. And I was looking forward to a little change, a little different scenery and I have that.
In theory, that will be easier said than done. In the transition from Miami to Chicago, Wade’s work off the floor will leave a deeper and more meaningful legacy than anything he accomplishes on it. Wade did plenty of charitable work in the Miami community during his 13 years in town, but his work in Chicago is more personal. And for now, Chicago just looks like a better team, period.
Thursday night, for the first time, they’ll be going against each other. Back-to-backs are hard enough as it is at home, let alone while traveling.
Considering everything he’s done for the franchise, Wade should receive nothing short of a warm welcome upon walking into the AmericanAirlines Arena.
The two parties sat down to negotiate once again a year later, under more complex circumstances.
