Two teams that played Friday and traveled after the game will get their depth checked Saturday night when the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors meet for the first time this season.
Halfway through the second quarter, the Lakers rolled off 10 straight points to cut the Warriors’ lead to 44-41, but Golden State pushed it back up to 10 by halftime and never let it fall below double figures in the second half. For good or ill, nothing the Warriors do in this regular season (save for winning 74 games) will be long remembered by anyone other than us giddy Dubs fans. All told, the Warriors have won 94.3 percent of their home games ever since Steve Kerr became head coach, and with Saturday’s contest representing the first of five-straight games at Oracle, the current homestand presents a tremendous opportunity for Golden State to open up some distance between themselves and the rest of the Western Conference pack. His energy in running the floor and his hops (my brother likened him to a human pogo stick) ran the Timberwolves bigs ragged and affected countless shots; of all the players on the Warriors bench, McGee was the most effective, finishing the night +11 in his 11 minutes of play.
Klay Thompson added 23 as the Warriors stretched their win streak to 11.
Golden State didn’t get its first field goal of the second quarter until 7:41 remaining on Durant’s three-point play.
Warriors: Host Atlanta on Monday in the second game of a five-game homestand and look to beat the Hawks at home for the fifth time in a row.
“Especially tonight. We missed Draymond”, Durant said. Iguodala finished with 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. Durant has contributed in a major way to Golden State’s early-season success, averaging 27.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists through 17 games.
Westbrook also tied LeBron James for the sixth-most triple-doubles in National Basketball Association history (44 each), but it only took him 605 games compared to the latter’s 1,000.
Looney, 20, was filling in for Draymond Green, who missed the Warriors’ 115-102 win over Minnesota with a bruised left ankle.
The Spurs (14-3) swept a three-game road swing and are a flawless 10-0 away from home. Green facilitates the offense more than anyone else, and he’s the team leader in assists per game (6.9) because of it. Zach LaVine posted 13 points and 3 rebounds.
George Hill and Gordon Hayward each had 24 points for Utah. Midway through the second quarter, Golden State had totaled just six assists. They’ve only failed to reach that mark once, their last loss of the season in LA at the hands of the Lakers almost a month ago.
