WCGSports: John Ross’ record-breaking, island-declining combine performance

Ross, whose ability to take the top off a defense has been compared to Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson’s, has worked with Jackson, himself, throughout his preparations for the draft. “‘But that doesn’t mean we are not going to try to find somebody that can help us and that’s across the board, not only pertaining to that position“. The 5-foot-10, 188-pound Ross told reporters Friday that he was gunning for the record.

And he probably doesn’t have to worry too much about losing out on that $1m island – he suggested Nike has “something special” for him anyway. He is expected to be the second or third wide receiver drafted this year, behind Mike Williams and Corey Davis.

After he soared for a 4.22 finish in his Nikes on his first attempt, Ross did not mind that he was not competing for the grand prize.

However, that record designation came with qualifiers, such as “since 2006”, which is when NFL.com’s combine records start; or “since 2000”, when Profootballreference.com’s combine records begin; or “since 1999”, when the combine adopted semi-electronic timing for the 40. “Not everyone can do this”.

Oddly enough, Ross chalks up his success this past season to the injury and the resulting recovery process.

Ironically, Ross trained with EVO Training Group in California which is the same group that trained Jackson. Don’t use a high pick on him no matter where he goes, but remember his speed later in your draft. And I just took off. I just kind of basically was running around out there and I just used that against a lot of people.

On Saturday, no one could slow Ross down.
