WEATHER: Slight chance of rain is predicted

The National Weather Service forecast for Los Angeles and vicinity on Tuesday calls for cloudy skies in the morning then becoming partly cloudy.

The National Weather Service in Miami also notes this morning that West Palm Beach tied a record warm overnight low Monday with a temperature that dipped only to 78 that tied 1905. The primary threat from Thursday’s storms will be damaging wind gusts. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. “If this heavy rainfall occurs over a short period of time, some localized street flooding could occur in low lying and poor drainage areas”.

Wind is northwesterly to westerly and moderate to active. The previous record for May 18 was 1.79 inches in 1911. Those storms are supposed to spread east into Louisiana by Thursday evening.

“We are expecting very cold air aloft and that will allow the storms to become a little more strong to severe”, said Barry Baxter, a meteorologist with the NWS in Miami.

Tonight there’s a A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m.in mostly cloudy skies, with a low around 72.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop again on Wednesday, but mostly stay limited to the southern and eastern outlook area and the mountains.
