Wednesday forecast: It’s officially winter with highs in the 40s today

December 21 07:36 2016

Lows: Near 30 to mid-30s. Skies stay mostly clear tonight with lows in the upper 20s. Highs through mid-week climb into the mid-upper 40’s as milder temperatures move in.

Wednesday looks to be the warmest day of our work week, with highs tomorrow in the low 60s with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies and south winds around 5 miles per hour. Winds will be out of the SW at around 10 miles per hour with sunny skies. That keeps temperatures warmer than average into the holiday weekend.

Breezy with clouds and some sunny breaks (a few spots will get a rain or snow shower). Temperatures are also expected to reach into the mid to upper 40s by days end.

Tuesday: Sunny, high near 35.

Thursday: There’s a chance of scattered snow showers Thursday morning, followed by scattered rai and snow showers and a high near 42. The heat of the day can not release into the atmosphere (clouds slow that process down), and overnight lows aren’t as chilly.

If you’re hoping for a white Christmas, the odds are not looking good for the mountains.

Bottom line, storms have less cold air to work with meaning systems end up all rain or they start as snow but change to rain.

Monday and Tuesday warm up even more with temperatures climbing well into the 50s.

Friday a weak system comes through just after midnight bringing a small chance for a wintry mix as surface temperatures will be below freezing however cloud level temperatures are expected to be above freezing.
