White House paints Handel win as Trump triumph

Rep. Nancy Pelosi representative of exhausted, ineffectual Democratic leadership? During Wednesday’s caucus meeting, Pelosi reportedly stressed to her fellow lawmakers that while the results have been disappointing, the party was making headway in districts that have been largely Republican-controlled for years. “It’s so bad that it gets people out of their homes to go vote”, Democratic political consultant Lachlan McIntosh told The Post.

Pelosi insisted Democrats still have a shot at winning the majority in next year’s midterm elections, saying, “The House remains in play now”. I think it’s time for a new generation of leadership.

It’s about all they can do.

“When we saw the first numbers start to come in from Fulton County, on the early vote numbers, where we had really flipped that around to actually be in the lead, we knew that we were trending in the right direction”, said Handel.

“I stand before you, extraordinarily humbled and honoured at the tremendous privilege and responsibility you. have given me”, she told a crowd that chanted Mr Trump’s name. Far from rethinking their support for Trump or their plans to undo former President Barack Obama’s health care law, Republicans seem likely to stay the course.

Ossoff’s defeat has Democrats scratching their heads and searching for more answers, particularly because they spent tens of millions of dollars on the losing effort.

For his part, President Trump congratulated the candidate through his Twitter account, even before Handel made the announcement, claiming that her work had been “fantastic”, and that (the party) was very proud of her.

And as for the Democrats, they, clearly, are doing something wrong.

“I never thought we were gonna win”, said Dingell, calling on Democrats to focus on speaking to working-class voters like in her suburban Detroit district. Kathleen Rice, D-N.Y., Seth Moulton, D-Mass., and Tim Ryan, D-Ohio.

“I want to be a uniting force in the community”, said Handel. No, that’s not fair, nor is it accurate.

“There’s some important lessons we as Democrats need to learn moving forward and how to appeal to a greater swath of Americans”, said Darin Broton, a Democratic strategist.

“Do you think Nancy Pelosi is more toxic than Donald Trump?“.

“If we set aside the cynics and the critics, we have a chance…to do extraordinary things for our country in the years ahead”, Trump said, without explaining what he meant by “set aside”.

Half of Democrats (49 percent) view Pelosi favorably, while 1 in 4 Democrats (26 percent) have an unfavorable view of her.

“I feel very confident in the support that I have in my caucus”, she said.
