224 with a.career-worst 285 on-base percentage over 144 games last season.
The White Sox have signed shortstop Jimmy Rollins to a minor-league deal, according to a report from Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago. Rollins has appeared in 50 career postseason games and helped the Phillies win the 2008 World Series and the 2009 NL pennant.
Last week, the White Sox were reported to be interested in free-agent shortstop Ian Desmond, previously of the Nationals. Indeed, he’s been more of a. 245 hitter the last four seasons, and hit an unimpressive. The Sox first reached out Rollins, who had offers with other teams to serve a super-utility type role but preferred the Sox because of a chance to start, in December.
The low-risk high-reward move is a smart one for the Sox, who will surely benefit from Rollins’ experience and leadership.
The White Sox open up spring training play on March 3 against the Dodgers. “2014 was a very quality year, consistent with what he did the bulk of his career”. Now the Dodgers are walking into a new season with a rookie shortstop that they seem to have enough confidence in that Rollins is no longer needed. “As far as playing time and everything else, we’ll see how that goes out”. He also has played in 2,192 games at shortstop which puts him in eighth of all time at the position, just 110 games behind the fifth place shortstop, Cal Ripken Jr. “We will see how things play out”.
“I think it takes pressure off (Saladino)”.
Even though the White Sox believe in Saladino, given their inexperience at short, Hahn likes what possibilities the signing may bring.
