Any true Gilmore Girls fan can not just say those first words without singing them.
That’s it. Those are your four words right there. Why are the final lines of dialogue so important?
ET caught up with Bledel at Netflix’s Gilmore Girls premiere event last week and the 35-year-old actress was delightfully candid about her feelings on the last four words.
However, years later Carole’s was asked by some friends (creators Amy Sherman Paladino and her husband Dan) to re-record the song with her daughter Louise Goffin for a pilot they were making called Gilmore Girls.
Alexis Bledel, who plays Rory, also had something to say on her return to set: “It was really surreal to step back into it because there were certain things that seemed like time had kind of stood still”.
A Year In The Life gave her a chance to end the story the way she wanted, boy, did she ever. Thanks to Netflix, fans have now heard those words and they have been left wanting, needing, more Gilmore Girls in their lives. No one gets to have everything they want in life. The show is effectively critic-proof-there is nothing I can say that will keep the show’s fans from streaming it over the long holiday weekend. You’ve got to see Sally Struthers (Babette). “Rory is really hardworking and she’s not a terribly social person”. Took my breath away and made me cry (after laughing at so many others parts). It’s a fun trip. He had a major heart attack (a “stunner”, as she puts it), and never makes it out of the ICU. From here on in, there will be spoilers.
Lane and Zack, with occasional houseguest Brian, are still rocking out, Michel is married (to a man), Kirk is starting his own Uber – sorry, OOOber – a gag that pays off wonderfully later in the episode, and nearly everything else is right where we left it. I watched all of the episodes multiple times. Lorelai teased Rory for being in love with Pee-Wee Herman as a kid, and Rory got a break-up text from her forgettable boyfriend Paul. “Omfg those final four words how can you just cut it like that???”
The fact that Richard is dead would be a focal point in the revival and it would definitely lead to some emotional moments.
We begin with “Winter“, which allows the show to reintroduce Stars Hollow at its most magical. She adds with a laugh, “And a lot of books for sure”. It was a very distinct world that she created, and all the characters in it seemed real, and they seemed like they belonged there.
“Czuchry, however, said, “The ending is a great ending if that’s end, and if there’s more to go, that could be a great ride, too. And then whatever happens, happens”.
So, having watched the final scene (and hopefully the rest of the series), do you think there’s more?
