As mentioned, they do pick up a second rounder in 2019. What’s impressive is what the Eagles gained in the exchange. For us we, we want to win this year, but we’re going to continue to try to win in 2019and 2020. “That’s the thing we got to remember”.
“We did not come into tonight thinking we were going to trade out”. With AP Photos.Following a whirlwind opening night in the National Football League draft, the Baltimore Ravens can kick back during the second round before getting down to business.
It looked as though the 2016 Heisman Trophy victor wouldn’t hear his name called in the opening round, but the Ravens made a last-second trade to acquire the 32nd pick from the Eagles to select the electric pivot. And he deserves some credit for that – because the NFL’s draft system usually makes all-comers very pliable when it comes to their personal preferences.
Jackson obviously was on the list of guys the Eagles figured would attract outside interest.
Ozzie Newsome also threw support behind Flacco.
With the trade and the first round complete, what direction will the Eagles go?
“Our balance was the short term versus the long term”, Roseman said.
“If you get a chance to get a talent like this, I don’t think you can pass it up”, Harbaugh said. The first round will be Thursday night.
In Baltimore, Jackson has the opportunity to be brought along slowly behind Flacco, who has another four years on his deal. They kept it up through every pick.
After saying there was “nothing” he would’ve done differently to help his draft stock, the 2016 Heisman Trophy victor was asked what he would bring to the Ravens. Fittingly, Mayfield didn’t attend the draft. His final season saw the Jacksonville native earn First Team All-SEC honors from both the Associated Press and the league’s coaches. But it’s a tradeoff that he should be happy with because first-round quarterbacks get an extra nod that others don’t.
Flacco is 33 years old and hasn’t impressed of late. One for Rosen, the Bills moving up the board. Linebacker Skai Moore, defensive linemen Taylor Stallworth, Dante Sawyer and Ulric Jones, defensive backs Jamarcus King, D.J. Smith and Chris Lammons and offensive linemen Cory Helms and Alan Knott also could be selected in this year’s draft.
San Francisco added a dash of local flavor by drafting Notre Dame tackle Mike McGlinchey with the ninth pick.
Ravens officials later hinted that quarterback could be in the draft plans. Hiestand hails from Radnor High.
